Dr. Shirley Sternberg was raised in Chicago and pursued a bachelor's degree in Biology at Loyola University in Chicago. She then attended veterinary school at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. She enjoyed learning the biology and medicine of both large and small animals, but decided to focus on small animal practice. During her final year, she participated in electives in ophthalmology and dermatology, and completed an externship at the Anti-Cruelty Society in Chicago. Dr. Sternberg graduated with highest honors in 2000, and has been practicing in the Chicago area since that time.

Dr. Sternberg enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, especially dermatology and internal medicine. She regularly participates in continuing education seminars and is a member of the AVMA. She shares her home with a beautiful family - her husband and two daughters, as well as their dog, cat and four fish. She enjoys gardening, reading and scrapbooking in her spare time.
